Cozy Lark

Cozy Lark is the brainchild of Andrea Nelson, whose goal is to inspire people of all skill levels to pick up a paintbrush and create art without judgment. She has a massive following on social media (1.4 million on Instagram!) and has a line of travel watercolor sets and accessories. After handling the photography and design herself for a few years, she was ready for a rebrand, and I was fortunate to be brought on board to make some photos to support her new name and look. We did one studio shoot of mostly flat lay products, and another in her home studio for some portraits and process shots.

I always love a studio product shoot because they generally have a pretty relaxed vibe, and I can spend time being really particular about making sure everything is just so. The challenge with the studio session was the sheer number of products and product combinations to shoot in the time we had. Aside from the photos we made the day of the shoot, I also created layered images for some of the bundle packs that let her show and hide different items, giving her the flexibility to adjust items in the bundles without needing new photography. There were also some products with old branding whose newly branded replacements hadn’t arrived yet, so they needed to be digitally replaced, but still look natural. We ended up with over 60 deliverables from this one-day shoot!

Photographing in her home studio was a blast. She has curated a really warm and inviting space that is perfect for creating and sharing art. It’s always kind of magical to see where people create the things they love. We had a lovely afternoon creating some photos to complement the in-studio product photos.

More shoots and clients like Andrea, please!
